In Wales, people gave a wooden love spoon at St. Valentine´s Day as a present.

It is on 14th of February.
People send cards with a love poem
Simbols of love.......hearts, keys, birds, flowers....

St. Valentine was a priest (sacerdote) who lived in third century before Christ. The Emperor Claudius II prohibited marriage to make better soldiers and St. Valentine (who was against-en contra- that ) married couples (parejas) secretly until he was discovered and condemned to death. He died on the 14th of February of 270 B.C.

Valentine is a beautiful celebration (encanta: I love it). There are many people who say it's a pretty nonsense but they love it. They can have many evenings but no as those of St. Valentine´s Day. (Nuria write this comment on the discusion part, please).

Chinese New Year is an annual festival based on the Chinese calendar. The date varies slightly (ligeramente) from year to year.

This year, it will be celebrated on 23rd January. Each New Year is named after one of the animals from the Chinese zodiac.

2012 is the year of the dragon, the only mythical animal.

Dragons have been a part of Chinese culture for over (más de) six thousand years. For the Chinese, dragons are good creatures.

Chinese dragons are wise (sabios) and caring (cuidadosos) and have magical powers. As they are considered a symbol of power, strength (fuerza), success (éxito), luck (suerte) and honour, they have also (también, too) represented the imperial power of the emperors (emperadores).

Also, the Chinese believe that
they are descendants of the dragon.
Dragons are actually made up (hechos) of the parts of nine animals:
The head of a camel
The neck and tail of a snake
The body of a fish
The paws of a tiger
The claws of an eagle
The ears of an ox (buey)
The horns of a deer
The eyes of a devil (demonio)
The belly of a clam (almeja)
In many pictures of dragons, there is a pearl (perla) under the dragon’s chin (mentón, barbilla) . It symbolizes wealth (riqueza)
and good luck.
